Footsteps on the sidewalk could barely be heard as a young woman ran down a busy New York City street at morning rush hour. Her brown hair was up in a bun, but there were many fly-aways going in every direction. Her arms were full of many different things, her purse, a shopping bag full of items unseen through the shiny clouded plastic, a smooth black binder full of the day to come important papers, and a tray of 4 coffees.
It was morning rush hour and with all the people out on the street, it was amazing that this woman was still on her feet. She shuffled through and around all the people, careful not to spill a drop of coffee.
Dressed in business attire, she looked like every single other monkey out on the streets that morning. Her dress jacket flapping from side to side around her knees as she ran down the street.
She slowed down when she noticed that things were starting to slip from her grip. Nobody noticed and kept going on their merry way. A couple people actually bumped into her, not even noticing and went on walking. A woman with clicking heels bumped into her completely, a coffee spilled down the front of her jacket and dress pants. She jumped back, shocked and burned, as another person, a very tall middle-aged man bumped into her too, causing her to lose her balance. Her purse, binder and bag went flying from her hands, and she landed on her hands and knees in the middle of the sidewalk.
To her left and right people kept walking by not even noticing that she was on her hands and knees, coffee stained and near tears. People walked by not even noticing as they carried on their way, off to somewhere more important than a young woman being trampled.
"Would you like some help?" a soft voice, with a hint of an English accent, asked over the bustle of the street. The young woman looked up and saw a very handsome young man with his hand extended towards her.
"Please." She said gratefully as she took his hand and got back onto her feet, leaving all her stuff on the street at their feet. "Thank you." She said as a small smile graced her face for the first time this morning.
"My pleasure." He replied smiling himself. He was every woman's idea of attractive. Tall, dark, and handsome. His black hair reflected off the morning sun's rays that sneaked in between the tall buildings. His bright green eyes matched hers in color and intensity. His smile was not only inviting and kind, but smart and funny all at the same time. He was dressed similar to the rest of the people on the street, but he wasn't the type to flaunt it, she could see that already. His sense of style was quite complimentary, as everything he was wearing matched something else on his person. He wore a nice watch that looked expensive and his tie she was sure she'd seen in a fashion magazine. His dress shoes were new and unskuffed. He looked perfect, but then again, she would have taken anybody who would have helped her.
"It's amazing how there can be so many people on this street and nobody noticed anything." She said as she pointlessly tried to wipe the coffee stain off her pants. She wiped her jacket thinking of how it will need to be dry-cleaned soon. She looked up at him (he was just less than a foot taller than her) and tried to smile politely. He smiled back at her, and she found that she didn't have to try to smile anymore.
"His smile is contagious." She said to herself as she couldn't help but laugh at herself inside. It was hopeless that she try to do anything about her outfit, and gave up.
"Yes, quite arrogant, in my opinion." He said as he extended his hand towards her. "My name is Henry, it's a pleasure to help you on this lovely morning..." He finished leaving it open for her to introduce herself.
"Sophie. Sophie Hannigan. It's a pleasure to be helped, I think." She said stupidly. Why was it that attractive men had this effect on her? She was a business woman, very intelligent, very quick thinking, and very good at her job. Why was it that as soon as a good looking man came anywhere near her she would clam up or say something stupid? She mentally slapped herself and focussed back on him.
"Oh, surname also. How interesting." He said almost to himself more than her as his smile still lit up his face. "Very well then. Henry is my name, and until I have finally decided that you are not a crazy woman who likes to draw in strange men on crowded streets, I shall stay being Henry." He said with a gleam in his eye.
"I'm sorry to say that I'd hardly find you strange- Henry" she replied putting emphasis on the last word. "In fact, there doesn't seem to be anything strange about you, other than you helped a poor woman on a busy street just now. That I must say is odd." She bent down and picked up the items that she had been carrying.
"Appearances can be deceiving..." he thought to himself.
"Well I must be on my way, Henry. Thank you once again." But as she turned to leave, she felt a small pressure on her shoulder.
"Surely you don't think that I would let you just walk away like that, do you?" Henry replied as he raised one eyebrow in question.
Even just the way that he held himself made her ache. He didn't stand there stupidly with his hands in his pockets, looking dumb, he was tall, straight-backed and proud. She glanced around to find that amazingly, people were giving him quite the personal space. Not a single person came within 4 feet of him, but drew very close to her as they all walked by.
"Well you must let me go." She said as she turned back to face him. "I'm already late for work." She said with a sympathetic look on her face. She didn't really want to leave this stranger, and for boring work no less. "And I'll have to get some more coffee, so I'll be even later, so I really, really must be going."
"Why do you need that much coffee anyway? You're not one of those caffeine-crazed people, are you? Because so much of something surely can't be good for you... Well, some things..." He said seductively as Sophie could have sworn she saw a small wink from him.
Just something that came to my mind before Christmas. I just haven't gotten the chance to put it up here until now.

This is just a clip of something. It would need some history and clearly some future. But like I always do- I can't seem to finish my stories, so you'll have to deal with this snip-it.

I hope you enjoy.
